This guide explains how to add GST manually and how to check the result using the calculator.
In some shops or web portals, you may see prices with the comment "GST not included". This means that it is not the final price, and you will have to add GST to the amount to get the total to pay.
Formula to calculate GST on a price without GST
To calculate the GST in this case, the following formula should be used:
Practical example of GST calculation at 5%
That is, if you have a product whose value is $240 without GST and with a 5% GST rate, the formula would look like this:
The product price must be multiplied by the GST percentage, and that number divided by 100. In this case, it would give $12. So the GST amount would be $12.
Another alternative would be to divide 5% by 100, resulting in 0.05, and multiply this by $240, resulting in $12 in the same way.
Finally, to add GST to a price, add the base price of the product, for example, $240, plus the calculated GST of $12, giving a final result of $252.
