Add BTW to a price step by step
- Price excl. BTW:
- R 0,00
- BTW 16%
- R 0,00
- Total incl. BTW:
- R 0,00
How to calculate BTW in South Africa step by step (16%, 15,5%)
This guide explains how to add BTW manually and how to check the result using the calculator.
In some shops or web portals, you may see prices with the comment "BTW not included". This means that it is not the final price, and you will have to add BTW to the amount to get the total to pay.
Formula to calculate BTW on a price without BTW
To calculate the BTW in this case, the following formula should be used:
Practical example of BTW calculation at 16%
That is, if you have a product whose value is R 740 without BTW and with a 16% BTW rate, the formula would look like this:
The product price must be multiplied by the BTW percentage, and that number divided by 100. In this case, it would give R 118,4. So the BTW amount would be R 118,4.
Another alternative would be to divide 16% by 100, resulting in 0,16, and multiply this by R 740, resulting in R 118,4 in the same way.
Finally, to add BTW to a price, add the base price of the product, for example, R 740, plus the calculated BTW of R 118,4, giving a final result of R 858,4.
