How to calculate VAT in Pakistan step by step (25%, 18%, 16%, 13%, 5%)

This guide explains how to add VAT manually and how to verify the result using the calculator.

In some stores or web portals you may see prices with the comment "VAT not included". This means that it is not the final price, and that VAT will have to be added to that amount to obtain the total to pay.

Formula to calculate VAT on a price without VAT

To calculate VAT in this case, the following formula must be used:

X
=
Price without VAT × VAT
100
=
VAT Result

Practical example of calculating VAT at 18%

That is, if you have a product whose value is Rs 2,400 without VAT and with a 18% VAT, the formula would look like this:

X
=
Rs 2,400 × 18
100
=
Rs 432

The price of the item must be multiplied by the VAT percentage, and that number divided by 100. In this case it would give Rs 432. Then the VAT amount would be Rs 432.

Another alternative would be to divide 18% by 100, giving 0.18 as a result and this being multiplied by Rs 2,400, resulting in Rs 432 in the same way.

To finish, you must add VAT to a price by adding the base price of the product, for example, Rs 2,400, plus the calculated VAT of Rs 432, giving as a final result Rs 2,832.

Example of reduced VAT calculation (5%)

In the case of a product with a price of Rs 2,400 without VAT to which the reduced VAT of 5% is applied, the formula allows you to calculate the corresponding tax for certain goods and services that have a lower taxation than the general rate.

X
=
Rs 2,400 × 5
100
=
Rs 120
